What We Do

Our Mission

The mission of the Wildlife Division is to restore, perpetuate, enhance, and manage the wildlife and rare plant resources of significance to the Nimiipuu.  We pursue this mission by:

  • Assisting Tribal leadership in protecting treaty rights and treaty-reserved resources,

  • Conducting wildlife and rare plant research and monitoring,

  • Protecting and expanding wildlife and rare plant communities and habitat, and

  • Providing wildlife and rare plant expertise during Federal, State, and Tribal project and policy development.

Our staff provide technical support to the Nez Perce Tribal Government regarding wildlife and rare plant management.  We participate in a diverse array of conservation efforts across the Tribe’s aboriginal homeland and play key roles in the recovery of wolves, bighorn sheep, California condor, rare plants, native habitat, and other resources across the Tribe’s aboriginal homeland. And we directly manage nearly 24,000 acres of habitat as mitigation, or replacement, of habitat lost due to hydropower development in Washington and Idaho.
